Sohrab Ahmari

Sohrab Ahmari will be the 2022 Keynote Speaker at Regina Angelorum Academy’s Forward in the Faith Gala.

Mr. Ahmari, a convert from secular Islam and atheism, is one of America’s leading Catholic journalists.  He served as the Op-Ed Editor for the New York Post, and has since become founding editor of the new online magazine Compact which launched in March 2022.

“An Iranian-born immigrant, Sohrab Ahmari has emerged as one of America’s most prominent conservative Catholic commentators.” (Franciscan University of Steubenville, upon appointing Ahmari a Veritas Center Fellow in Nov 2021)

He is the author of four books, including From Fire by Water: My Journey to the Catholic Faith (Ignatius 2019)which recounts his pilgrimage from Shia Islam in Iran to atheism in America until finding a home in the Catholic faith.  He is also the author of Arab Spring Dreams (2012), The New Philistines: How Identity Politics Disfigure the Arts(2016), and most recently, The Unbroken Thread: Discovering the Wisdom of Tradition in an Age of Chaos (2021).

Ahmari is a regular columnist for First Things and a contributing editor for the Catholic Herald and The American Conservative. Previously a senior writer at Commentary and columnist and editor for the Wall Street Journal, his articles have also appeared in The New York Times, the Boston GlobeThe Times Literary Supplement, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Dissent, America, and elsewhere.
